We believe that this may be an artist's representation of the Dunboyne (now the af Chapman).
This ship was built in 1888 in Whitehaven, Cumbria. She was bought by the Swedish navy in 1923 and her final voyage was in 1934. She was purchased by the Stockholm City Museum in 1947 in order to save her from demolition and is now used as a youth hostel and permanently docked in Stockholm.
The signature L. Gundersen may refer to Lief Gundersen, who is noted as a purchaser for the ship in the early twentieth century. By the date included on the painting (1952), she was already permanently docked, so the artist has employed their creative skills to reimagine the ship on the open ocean.
The painting is presented in an ornate frame: 47 x 55cm.
