A fine affordable and yet original watercolour painting on card showing the Barbican gateway in Sandwich, Kent (England, UK).

A barbican is a fortified outpost or gateway, such as an outer defence to a city or castle, or any tower situated over a gate or bridge which was used for defensive purposes.

Constructed in the 16th-century, the barbican gateway in Sandwich, with its chequered work, was part of the town defences and guarded the bridge over the River Stour.

This is a lovely landscape painting.
