A very fine and detailed original watercolour painting of a country house, which is well presented in a frame.
We believe the artist D. J. Carnill to be Denys John Carnill (11 March 1926 – 30 March 2016). Carnill was a British field hockey player who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics, in the 1956 Summer Olympics, and in the 1960 Summer Olympics.
He was also a hockey and history teacher at Dean Close School (Cheltenham, UK), who possessed considerable painting talent. His paintings of landscapes and interesting buildings in Cheltenham and the surrounding area were – and continue to be – much admired, and his work was to be seen on display from time to time in Cheltenham.
