Original Pencil Art
Pencil drawings are often considered in terms of preparatory sketches and small-scale works but can be accomplished works in themselves.
Pencils are made from graphite, a form of carbon. Although we refer to the centre of a pencil as its 'lead,' the medium has no relation to lead whatsoever. Graphite pencil is a very versatile medium. It can be sharpened to create highly detailed works, or the artist can make more impressionistic marks using the flat edge. Artist's pencils come in a range of hardness, from 9B (the softest) to 9H (the hardest). Most artists use the softer leads, leaving the hardest to technical drawings that require a more precise line.
