Original Oil Paintings
Oil paintings have been a firm favourite for the artist for a number of centuries. The process of oil painting can be time consuming and the artist has to prepare their canvas or panel with a primer before they begin. Pigments are mixed with linseed oil and applied to the primed surface in layers to ensure longevity.
Oil paint can be applied in a number of ways. It can be painted on with a fine selection of brushes to create very detailed, flat pictures, or it can be applied with a palette knife to give a more impressionistic impasto effect. This latter technique creates a three-dimensional texture on the painted surface and was a favourite amongst the Impressionists.
