Original Life Study Art
The life study, or nude portrait, is one of the ultimate tests of the artist's skill. The ability to create a naturalistic reflection of the human body on the page is one of the major aspects of artistic training. The complex anatomy of the human body has been studied by artists for centuries. The body in art needs to be rendered in every shape, size and position and with the innermost thoughts of the sitter reflected in their physical appearance. Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci combined art with science in their alleged dissection of cadavers for the study of anatomy. Da Vinci's notebooks look more like Gray's Anatomy than artistic studies, showing how the human body is constructed from the inside out.
Our collection includes a number of life studies, still a very popular subject today.
